Mission
The Marin Alliance for Medical Marijuana was founded in 1990 as the Hemp Renaissance Council of West Marin, in Point Reyes , by Lynnette Shaw and the late Jonathan Mazer. The Marin Alliance and Supervisor Gary Giacomini sponsored the Marin Medical Marijuana Ordinance #3109, adopted by the Marin Board of Supervisors in September 1992.
Our mission has been to protect patients from abuse by law enforcement and a jail system that continues to incarcerate the sick for medical marijuana, despite the successful passage of Proposition 215. We opened our North Bay campaign headquarters for Prop. 215 at 6 School Street Plaza, Suite 215, Fairfax, California, on July 3, 1996. The Cannabis Buyers' Club Marin was founded in August of 1996, when Dennis Peron's club was shut down, as a matter of medical necessity for the patients of the local area.
We were granted an unique business permit from the Town of Fairfax in 1997 containing 100 conditions that regulates and allows the non-profit distribution of medical cannabis to qualified members. It is a model plan for a small community-based distribution center. We are in possession of the permit even though we have been sued by the Federal Government over the issue. We cannot discuss details on the Internet since we are still pending in Federal Court, but our Patient Rescue and Support Services are still available seven days a week in Fairfax.
The Marin Alliance for Medical Marijuana has a team of lawyers to help rescue patients and straighten out their problems, as part of our compassionate services. We have patient support counseling available by appointment with our volunteer staff and Rev. Lynnette Shaw.
The Peace, Inc. Foundation formally adopted us as a division in 1998 and ordained Lynnette as a pastor of the Religion of Jesus Church, a cannabis friendly ministry established in 1969. We are a tax-exempt non-profit religious organization. Donations of any kind will receive a tax receipt for full value.
We are honored with the privilege of protecting over 1500 qualified persons registered with the Marin Alliance Cannabis Patient Registry.
Rev. Lynnette is also happy and legal to marry couples.
